Hillside DBT specializes in helping children, adolescents, and families who are having issues with adapting to change, working through conflict, or dealing with emotional distress. Helping clients cope with stress is our primary goal.

We achieve this by getting them to:

• Gain insight into their feelings and reactions to strong emotions
• Manage and maintain healthy relationships
• Prepare mentally and emotionally for high school and college
• Balance school and extracurricular activities
• Resolve family conflicts
• Overcome depression and anxiety
• Feel empowered to succeed in these highly competitive times

Our highly skilled and compassionate clinicians are ready to help our clients and their families reach their goals.

Hillside Outpatient DBT Services

Empowering children, adolescents and parents with coping skills for surviving and thriving through the journey into and out of adolescence. We offer comprehensive treatment for kids with depression and anxiety.

Individual/Family Psychotherapy

DBT Trained therapists will provide individual DBT psychotherapy with the goal of motivating clients to stay in treatment and apply DBT skills to their personal lives.

Our therapists are also experienced in family therapy and can provide family sessions as needed, with the goal of helping families to integrate DBT into their daily lives and interactions with each other.

Skills Group Training

In separate groups for youth and parents, DBT Skills Training focuses on helping individuals to develop the coping skills they need to solve their own problems, achieve their desired goals and provide a new way of communication to help both parents and youth find a common ground.

5 skills training modules are taught in DBT:

  • Core mindfulness skills
  • Distress tolerance skills
  • Emotion regulation skills
  • Interpersonal effectiveness skills
  • Middle Path — Skills for Families

Additional Therapy Services

Do you feel like experiences pass you by? Do you feel like many thoughts are swimming in your head while you are trying to have a conversation with someone or pay attention in class? Do you feel like you are moving so fast through your day that you forget to breathe? Do you feel like the emotion you are feeling at any given moment will last for an eternity?

Research has shown that daily mindfulness practice has positive effects on reducing the impact of stress in people's lives that may be due to work, school, family, grief, feeling out of control anxiety, and depression.

Our therapists have been trained on how to incorporate this into their own daily practice and can assess clients on an individual basis to determine need for utilizing theses strategies within the individual therapy session.

Theraplay

Do you feel out of sync with your child? Do you want to connect better with your teen and preteen? Do you want to help your child feel more connected to you? Does your child benefit more from doing rather than talking? Does your child need help with regulating emotions, peer relationships, self-esteem or with developing a sense of who they are?

Theraplay is an experiential based therapy that can be implemented in a group setting or with the family, depending on where the needs of the child are. This mode of treatment is a therapist directed form of playful engagement that works to enhance one’s sense of self, provide opportunities for shared joy with others, improve affective and emotion regulation and increase attunement with others.

*All services at Hillside DBT are self-pay only and we do not bill insurance. Our clinicians will provide you with a claim form with the required information for you to submit to your insurance company for out-of-network benefits. Insurance companies vary widely on reimbursement for out-of-network benefits for behavioral health services. We advise you consult directly with your insurance company regarding your benefits.
